A 21-year-old woman accused of murdering a former colleague and Bukoto bar waitress has been further remanded to Luzira Prison as police continue with the investigation.
Patricia Rose Turindwamukama appeared before Kampala City Hall Magistrate’s court today Tuesday, for an update on investigations into charges of murder and aggravated robbery arising from the death of Jovia Namuwulya.
State Attorney Mariam Akite told grade one magistrate Nicholas Aisu that investigations were still ongoing and asked for more time to complete them. The court adjourned the case to October 15 for mention, meaning Turindwamukama will remain in custody.
Turindwamukama, whom police documents describe as self-employed and a resident of Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto I Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala, was first arraigned on September 7 and remanded to Luzira Prison.
Prosecution alleges that Turindwamukama and another person, who is still at large, murdered Namuwulya during the night of August 20 at Mukalazi Zone, Bukoto.
According to the charge sheet, the two acted with malice aforethought and unlawfully caused Namuwulya’s death.
Turindwamukama is also accused of aggravated robbery. Prosecutors allege that during the same incident, she and her alleged accomplice robbed Namuwulya of an iPhone 12 Pro Max valued at Shs 2 million, a cream-white bag worth Shs 150,000, clothes valued at Shs 200,000 and a passport bearing number B00263181.
The prosecution further alleges that a knife, described as a deadly weapon, was used during or around the alleged robbery and that Namuwulya was subsequently murdered.
The charges are capital offences triable by the High court. Turindwamukama will therefore remain before the magistrates’ court for mention pending completion of investigations and her committal to the High court for trial.
Turindwamukama was arrested on August 24 at a friend’s house in Mbuya, Nakawa Division, four days after the alleged murder. Police said preliminary investigations showed that she had applied for an Iraqi visa on August 21, a day after the alleged killing.
Turindwamukama has denied involvement in Namuwulya’s murder. In a narration posted on social media, she reportedly claimed that she and Namuwulya had spent the night with a man who later accused Namuwulya of taking some of his money.
She reportedly said the man later went to the house where they were staying to look for the money. Turindwamukama allegedly told Namuwulya to return it, but when she refused, she left the house.
