CAPS United maintains top position on log after 1-0 victory over Tel One FC

CAPS United stretched its lead at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) log standing following a 1-0 victory over Tel One FC in a league match played at Rufaro Stadium in Harare Sunday.

Makepekepe’s win was enabled by Takunda Benhura, who scored in the 38th minute to earn his side the much-needed three points.

Sunday’s result left CAPS on 19 points, two ahead of second-place occupiers Hardrock FC, who are on 17 points.

Despite the win, coach Takesure Chiragwi was not happy with his team’s overall performance.

“Today I think we did not do much in terms of how we used to play, but football is like that sometimes; what is important is to get the result.

“We had numerous chances in the first half that could have seen us even leading 3-0, but most credit goes to the goalkeeper and defenders for clearing all dangerous balls from the opponents,” he said.

Makepekepe’s win added more pressure on Tel One FC, who have gone for eight games without winning this season.

Tel One FC, also known as “The Wi-Fi Boys” are one of the five teams yet to register a win this season, the other four being Manica Diamonds, Agama, FC Hunters, and Highlanders.

In other Castle Lager PSL games played over the weekend, Herentals beat FC Hunters 2-1 at Rufaro Stadium Saturday, while Triangle recorded a 2-0 win over Manica Diamonds.

FC Platinum was held to a 1-1 draw at home by MWOS, as Simba played a 2-2 draw against Agama.
