Wealth Central – the Lambeth arm of Wealth Union Group CIC – have been in touch with Brixton Buzz to tell us what they’ve been doing to improve things for Brixton youth.
They said:
There is a tired, familiar narrative often pushed about Brixton. Step out into SW9 and you’re told that rapid changes, gentrification, and rising economic pressures are slowly draining away the area’s identity.
But if you stand right outside Brixton Underground station on any given afternoon, a completely different reality plays out on the pavement.
The people who grew up on these streets haven’t checked out, and they certainly haven’t given up. They’re taking direct ownership of their neighbourhood’s future.
Through Wealth Central – the Lambeth arm of Wealth Union Group, Paul Tshiama – residents who know SW9 inside and out are stepping directly into the gap to back the next generation.
In a recent clip captured right outside Brixton Station, local leader AP put the mission in clear terms while speaking directly to the crowd gathering outside the station:
“We’re back in Lambeth… back in Brixton, our hometown, our home turf… We’re calling it Community Takeover.”
Rather than waiting around for council strategies or top-down funding that rarely trickles down to where it’s needed most, the initiative focuses on direct, street-level action:
- Mobilising Youth Ambassadors: Putting young locals front and centre outside Brixton Station and across the borough to serve their own community, including active, hands-on support for key local lifelines like the Brixton Soup Kitchen.
- Real Street Presence: Creating visible, accessible role models on the block who show young people that leadership starts at home.
- SME Support & Grants: Running business masterclasses for young local entrepreneurs, offering pitch showcases and direct grants to ensure Brixton’s emerging talent can afford to build and stay right here.
As AP emphasised to the crowd outside the tube station, the effort isn’t about PR or empty corporate pledges. It’s about direct action: “We’re simply gonna feed the streets… feed every single person from the community.“
Brixton’s true strength has always lived in its people, not external promises. When local leaders back local youth, the community doesn’t just adapt, it takes over.
