As the preseason period nears its end, NBA teams are getting ready for the real deal. The 2026-27 season is days away, and teams will compete for a championship.
The New York Knicks were victorious last season, as they beat the San Antonio Spurs 4-1. Now, another team will try to add its name to the history books and bring home a championship like teams of the past.
This season will be a wild ride, as multiple stars found new homes during the offseason. While all these stars have a shot at winning, one team will have the upper hand.
Overall, there are many things to look forward to this season, and with so much going on, it is a great time to make some predictions. Here are a few things to expect from this upcoming season.
1.) A New Champion is Crowned
The Knicks fought their way through the playoffs, and their hard work paid off. They won their first championship since 1973, and the year before that, the Oklahoma City Thunder won.
Since 2019, there has been a new champion. The Toronto Raptors started the trend, as they beat the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018, but the Raptors stopped them from winning another. Since then, teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets have won titles.
While the Knicks have the talent to win it all, it is hard to repeat. There are new challengers, and they have a good shot at winning. For example, the Philadelphia 76ers made big moves, and they could come away with their first title since 1983. Anything can happen this season, and when it is all said and done, a new champion can claim the throne.
2.) New Faces Will Shine In New Places
The NBA changed over the summer, as big names moved elsewhere. The Sixers added Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, and they look like the team to beat. Philadelphia parted ways with Paul George, as it sent their two-way forward to the Boston Celtics.
Another Eastern Conference team added a star, as the Miami Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo. He will play alongside Bam Adebayo, and the duo could give other teams trouble. The Heat are a team to keep an eye on, and they could be one of the conference’s top seeds. Then, when it comes to the Western Conference, a few stars changed homes as well. LaMelo Ball was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Ja Morant went to the Portland Trail Blazers. Both guards were stars with their previous teams, and now, they get to play alongside two new stars. Ball is joining Anthony Edwards, and Morant and Damian Lillard will be an exciting backcourt duo. All of these pairings have what it takes to win, and it comes down to who wants it more.
3.) NBA Awards Up For Grabs
Last year, players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama took home awards. Gilgeous-Alexander won Most Valuable Player (MVP), and he added his name to an extensive list. Wembanyama won Defensive Player of the Year, and this is just the beginning for the young star.
This year, Gilgeous-Alexander could win another award, but players like Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic and more are in the running as well. The MVP race could be a tight one, and by the end of the season, a winner will be crowned.
Then, awards like Rookie of the Year will be competitive, as young stars like Cameron Boozer, Caleb Wilson and AJ Dybantsa are fighting for that honor. So, that is another race to watch out for.
This season will be full of surprises, and if all goes right, this may be one of the best seasons in recent memory.
