Dr Mwinyi urges clerics to continue promoting the country’s peace, love, unity, moral values

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has urged Muslim religious leaders to continue emphasizing the importance of peace, love, unity and solidarity, while strengthening the upbringing of children and young people based on good moral values.

President Mwinyi made the remarks today, September 18, 2026, after Friday prayers, when he officially opened the Tabligh Jamaat Markaz Zanzibar Ijitimai in Bungi, Central District, South Unguja Region.

He said religious leaders have an important role to play in reminding worshippers about good deeds, promoting moral values, and helping build families and communities guided by religious teachings.

The President also called on parents and guardians to remain closely involved in the lives of children and young people, particularly regarding their use of social media, to ensure they are exposed to beneficial content and develop strong moral values.

President Mwinyi further urged residents to take precautionary measures following warnings from authorities about expected heavy rains. He called on religious leaders to continue educating communities about the importance of taking necessary precautions and praying for God to protect the nation from disasters.

On peace and stability, President Mwinyi said the prevailing environment continues to provide opportunities for religious, social and economic activities. He stressed the importance of citizens and religious leaders working together to strengthen social cohesion.

The three-day Ijitimai has brought together worshippers from various countries around the world. The gathering will feature religious teachings, prayers and activities aimed at strengthening unity, solidarity and good moral values within society.
