The inaugural Gators Invitational Championships 2026 made a strong entrance on Uganda’s swimming calendar, bringing together swimmers from clubs across the country for two days of intense competition from 15–16 August 2026.
Hosted by Gators Swim Club Kampala, the first edition provided a platform for young and senior swimmers to test themselves across a wide range of events and age categories, with competition stretching from the 10–11 age group to swimmers aged 18 and above.
The hosts quickly made their presence felt. Gators Swim Club Kampala finished the championships as the overall team champions with 4624 points, comfortably ahead of Dolphins Swim Club Kampala, who collected 3134.5 points. Aqua Akii Swim Club finished third with 1417.5 points, followed by Imara Aquatics Sports Club on 1353.5.
The dominance of the hosts was particularly evident in the boys’ competition, where Gators accumulated 2718 points, while their girls’ team collected 1906 points. Dolphins were runners-up in both categories with 1766.5 boys’ points and 1368 girls’ points.
Beyond the team standings, the competition produced several eye-catching performances. Gators’ Nissi Kahinju was one of the standout swimmers in the 14–15 girls’ category, winning the 200m freestyle in 2:20.63 and also taking first place in the 50m backstroke in 34.58.
In the boys’ 14–15 category, Jayson Aronda also delivered strongly for the hosts, winning the 100m backstroke in 1:07.33, while Gators swimmers occupied several leading positions across the age groups.
The meet also showcased emerging talent from other clubs. Dolphins’ Jinan Nakato won the girls’ 12–13 200m freestyle in 2:30.07, while Imara’s Sebastian Ssimbwa Luke won the boys’ 12–13 race in 2:23.33.
Among the older swimmers, Gators’ Alex Rumanyika won the boys’ 16–17 100m butterfly in 1:01.13, while Thembo Katende topped the men’s 18-and-over 100m butterfly in 1:01.01.
With 13944 total team points accumulated across the competition, the first Gators Invitational proved to be more than a home-club celebration. It was a competitive gathering that gave Uganda’s swimmers another opportunity to race, gain experience and measure themselves against some of the country’s emerging aquatic talent.
The inaugural edition has therefore set an encouraging benchmark for what could become a significant fixture on Uganda’s swimming calendar.
