Amus College School executes historic trophy parade from Lira city to Sapir hill in Bukedea

Teso Region’s Amus College School from Bukedea District will for the next 365 days deservedly brag as Uganda’s national schools’ football champions.

This is after smiling to victory at the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) boys’ football championship hosted in Lira city, Northern Uganda by Lira Town College.

For the first time ever in the history of Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), the national title was won by a school in the far East, in Teso region.

For the eight matches played at the nationals in Lira, Amus College School managed to score 12 goals and conceded once, during the final group stage match against Mukono Kings High School at Lango College playground 1.

This victory was basically a reward of good planning (excellent preparations) right from player recruitment, vigorous training regime, discipline, diligence in all competitions from the district, regional to nationals, teamwork, determination, support from school administration and solidarity by all parties at play.

“We had a vision and mission to accomplish” head coach Richard Malinga who also won this trophy with Buddo S.S last year hinted.

After the hard-fought 1-0 win over neighbors Bukedea Comprehensive during the final at Lira Town College playground, Amus College School had a historic trophy parade from Lira city for 191 KM road journey.

“All the players were focused and determined. We were also disciplined, ready to die a little for the school. Besides all, we had a supportive school administration” team captain Jamal Iddi Rashid remarked.

The team embarked on the road from Lira Town College through Lira City, Dokolo, Soroti, Kumi, Mukura, Bukedea, Nakalooke, Mbale and back to the famous Sapir hills at Bukedea where Amus College School is found.

It is one historic journey worth remembering where hundreds of people lined up on the streets to welcome the team especially in major towns and business centers.

Upon arrival in Soroti, Mukura, Bukedea trading center and Mbale particularly, business came temporarily came to a brief standstill as the triumphant motorcade made the procession.

Team captain Jamal Iddi Rashid and head coach Richard Malinga moved in an open roof car with the trophy accompanied by the two college buses, small cars and some boda-boda’s.

The procession entered the school gate at 5:14 PM, well received by the school community of students, teachers and other support staff.

Michael Okiror Kaminasi, the deputy Head Teacher of Amus College School officially received the new rebranded USSSA boys’ football trophy.

This trophy is a milestone to Amus College School, East Africa, Eastern region and Teso region. It is the first time that we are winning. We are happy for this trophy and happy for the management of the school. Sports is just part of Amus College School where education is paramount. This year alone, we managed to qualify 43 students for university on Government merit. We are also engaged in music and this is the where you can bring your child for wholestic education.

Focus will now turn to the preparations for the East Africa championships due in Morogoro city, Tanzania (10th to 20th August 2026).

Meanwhile, Amus College School girls’ football team continues to prepare for the final bend of the USSSA Ball Games 1 climax (venue and dates will be confirmed).
