It took a last-play try for the Heathens to secure a 25-20 victory over the visiting Walukuba Barbarians at Kyadondo on Saturday.
Early in the first half, Walukuba stunned Heathens with a quick try off the scrum. Flyhalf Gift Wokora received the ball and beat two initial defenders before selling a dummy to the third. A few meters from the tryline, he was finally tackled, but he managed to offload to Shafiq Mansur, who had run a good support line. The fullback scored the try, and Wokorach successfully converted.
With an early 7-point lead, the Barbarians stayed composed even when the Heathens were applying pressure. That Heathens pressure finally paid off when Norbert Okeny went over in the corner, but Malcom Okello couldn’t add the extras.

Walukuba’s composure then paid off even after conceding a try. They got a penalty in a good kicking position, and Wokorach converted to put on a 5-point gap between his team and the hosts.
The mercurial fly-half was once again called into action off the kicking tee, and he made no mistake. The first half ended 13-8 after Malcom Okello pulled back 3 points off the tee.
Despite Wokorach working his magic again and assisting Geoffrey Odongo’s try, then going ahead to convert it, the Heathens made some changes that proved to be impactful.
New signing Brian Simiyu came on and made an immediate impact, carrying the ball well and breaking tackles for fun. Simiyu eventually scored a try and was involved in another, making a case for his introduction.
Okello, the eventual man of the match, scored the winning try after the game had stalled at 20 a piece. He missed the conversion to his try, but it was unnecessary as the clock was in the red.
