Jambojet returns to Entebbe six years after Covid-19 outbreak

Jambojet will resume flights between Nairobi and Entebbe on October 1, 2026, seeking to strengthen air connectivity between Uganda and Kenya and provide travellers with an affordable alternative for business, tourism and other travel.

The airline, which first entered the Ugandan market in 2018 before suspending its regional operations following the Covid-19 pandemic, will initially operate one flight daily on the route.

Karanja Ndegwa, Jambojet chief executive officer and managing director, said the return to Uganda was not a new beginning for the airline but a continuation of the relationship it established six years ago.

“Given that we were here six years back, Covid sent us back in and it is a pleasure coming back, just from where we left,” Ndegwa said.

He said Jambojet currently carries about 1.5 million passengers across its Kenyan network, with Kenyans accounting for about 80 per cent of its passengers.

Ndegwa said Uganda and Kenya have longstanding economic, social and tourism ties, with people travelling between the two countries for business, tourism, education, trade and to visit family and friends. He said the airline’s return was intended to grow the market rather than take market share from existing airlines.

“We don’t go indicating that we are coming to take the market share of the existing airlines. We did not go there to take the market share, but to grow,” Ndegwa said.
