Japan’s JET programme accepting new applications

Saint Lucians will be afforded the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. This initiative offers the opportunity for individuals to serve as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Participants will also “actively engage in cultural exchange, sharing Saint Lucian traditions and perspectives with local communities.”

Saint Lucians have been participating in this initiative since 2003, enriching Japan’s classrooms and deepening the friendship between both nations. The appointment begins with a one-year term, renewable up to three years based on performance, with the possibility of extension to five years. 

Interested participants must apply before the deadline of March 13, 2026. Applications must be emailed to culture@po.mofa.go.jp, with original documents being mailed to:
