Jub Jub Arrested As Police Probe Alleged Firearm Discharge. South African rapper and television personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has once again found himself at the centre of controversy following an alleged confrontation with an e-hailing driver that reportedly ended with gunfire.
According to information emerging from the investigation, the incident took place in Germiston, where tensions allegedly flared between the entertainer and the driver during a heated exchange. Authorities claim the dispute escalated dramatically, with allegations that shots were fired during the encounter.
“It is alleged that at approximately 7:30am, the e-hailing driver had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale when he was confronted by the suspect, who accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.
“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter,” said Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
The incident has resulted in a string of serious charges against the 39-year-old star. Among them is the charge of defeating the ends of justice, alongside allegations linked to the discharge of a firearm. Police confirmed that Maarohanye was arrested on Sunday and is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday (today).
For many South Africans, the news revives memories of the musician’s long and often turbulent journey through the public eye. Once celebrated for chart-topping hits and later embraced as a television presenter, Jub Jub’s career has frequently been overshadowed by legal troubles that have kept his name in headlines as much as his music has.
His past includes a highly publicised court case stemming from a fatal drag-racing crash more than a decade ago, a matter that led to a manslaughter conviction before he was later granted a presidential pardon.
