K.Keed celebrated the achievement on social media with an energetic post, writing, “COVER BOYSSSSSSSS,” while thanking Apple Music for the Rap Life cover and Mail & Guardian for featuring the duo. She ended the post with a reminder that their latest project, UMG II, is officially out.

Released on July 24, 2026, uMgaranto II reunites K.Keed and producer Orish for the follow-up to their 2023 collaborative project, uMgaranto. The album continues their exploration of kasi life through isiXhosa lyricism, sharp observations and stories drawn from their everyday surroundings.

Their Mail & Guardian feature further underlines the cultural purpose behind the project. K.Keed and Orish have positioned themselves as artists who want to leave a distinct mark on South African hip-hop by reflecting the country as it truly is rather than chasing international formulas.

“When the world is looking at our music and the visual representation of it, they need to see what South Africa is,” the pair said.

That philosophy also comes through in the album artwork, which features the familiar puppet duo Gundi no Mazwi. The imagery taps into shared South African memories and everyday township culture, reinforcing the project’s commitment to a distinctly local identity.

Musically, uMgaranto II moves between humour, ambition, friendship and street-level experiences, with K.Keed and Orish feeding off each other’s creative instincts. Their chemistry is particularly evident on the lead single “Abenam”, where a chaotic neighbourhood chase serves as the backdrop for an entertaining, vividly detailed story.

The Apple Music Rap Life cover adds another significant milestone to the album’s rollout, allowing the duo to introduce their Xhosa-rooted sound and collaborative style to an even wider hip-hop audience.

For K.Keed, the recognition builds on the momentum surrounding her career and follows the impact of projects such as Bite the Bullet. Orish, meanwhile, continues to demonstrate the creative strength of a partnership that has developed over years of working together.

At a time when artists can easily get pulled towards whatever sound is dominating the moment, K.Keed and Orish are choosing a different route. uMgaranto II puts their culture, language and lived experiences at the centre, and the attention surrounding the project suggests that authenticity still has plenty of room to make noise.

With the album now out and the covers secured, K.Keed and Orish have given uMgaranto II a powerful chapter in its rollout, while signalling that their story is far from finished.
