By Zoila Palma: The Belize Fisheries Department has announced that MAD’s Seafood Export is currently the only company licensed to legally purchase and export sea cucumbers for the opening of the 2026–2027 fishing season.
MAD’s Seafood Export will begin purchasing sea cucumbers on September 9, 2026, with the company’s physical location listed in Independence Village, Stann Creek District. However, authorized buyers will be stationed in Belize City to conduct purchasing operations.
Fishers and stakeholders seeking further information can contact MAD’s Seafood Export at 610-0664.
The Fisheries Department reminds that buying, selling or exporting sea cucumbers through unapproved or unlicensed entities is strictly prohibited under the Fisheries Resources Act and applicable regulations. The Department said additional applications from prospective buyers are currently under review.
If additional companies receive official licenses as the season progresses, the Fisheries Department will issue an updated public notice.
