Mpumalanga tour guide arrested over Canadian tourist’s death
Tour guide charged with homicide, firearm negligence in tourist death.
Police in Mpumalanga have arrested a 38-year-old private tour guide linked to the death of a 69-year-old Canadian tourist.
The tourist was shot and killed at a concession-operated braai at a picnic site near Phabeni Gate last night.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the private guide is facing charges of culpable homicide and reckless handling of a firearm.

“It is reported that one of the guests approached him and asked him if the firearm he was holding was a real firearm, as he was trying to demonstrate to him that indeed it was a real firearm. It is reported that the firearm discharged and the bullet struck the guest on the upper body, and he was certified dead on the scene. So far as the police, we have opened a case of culpable homicide and reckless handling of a firearm. Investigations are ongoing.”
