Twelve parents, students and teachers from public and private schools have been recognised for their contributions and achievements at the National Parent Teacher Association’s third annual awards ceremony.
The ceremony, held recently at Christian Assembly Ministries in Paynters, celebrated educators and parents as well as students who excelled in the Grade Six National Assessment and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations.
Anesta Augustin-Edwards of Seventh-day Adventist Primary, Claudette Browne of TN Kirnon Primary, Damian Tonge of Irene B Williams Secondary and Ady Byrne of St Joseph’s Academy received Parent of the Year awards in the private primary, public primary, public secondary and private secondary categories, respectively.
The Student of the Year awards went to Caleb Jeremiah of Seventh-day Adventist Primary, Olivia Nicholas of Old Road Primary, Jahlisha Michael of Irene B Williams Secondary and Amari Cornelius of St Joseph’s Academy.
Bernadette Atkin of New Bethel SDA Primary, Kevin Scott of Golden Grove Primary, Tijah Myers of Irene B Williams Secondary and Ellis Southwell of St Joseph’s Academy were named Teachers of the Year.
NPTA President Alister Thomas welcomed guests and awardees and called for greater collaboration among school administrations, the Ministry of Education and the association to advance education in Antigua and Barbuda. He also described the NPTA awards programme as the first of its kind in the Caribbean.
The charge to the awardees was delivered by Rita Phillip-Harris, the 2025 Parent of the Year in the private secondary school category.
The NPTA thanked parents, members and corporate sponsors for supporting the ceremony.
