DAR ES SALAAM: THE Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has expressed satisfaction with the level of efficiency achieved at the Port of Dar es Salaam following an inspection tour to assess the port’s performance and the improvements implemented through private sector participation.
Speaking during the visit, PAC Chairperson Devotha Minja commended the management of the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) for its continued efforts to improve services and enhance productivity. She noted that the increase in cargo volumes and the number of vessels calling at the port demonstrates its growing competitiveness within the East African region.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Transport David Kihenzile said the government will continue investing in infrastructure improvements to enhance service efficiency and strengthen the sector’s contribution to national economic growth.

For his part, TPA Director General Plasduce Mbossa said the authority is continuing to implement various infrastructure improvement projects that have contributed to increased revenue, enhanced the port’s competitiveness, and expanded its capacity to handle larger volumes of cargo more efficiently.
The officials noted that ongoing modernization efforts are aimed at positioning the Port of Dar es Salaam as a leading maritime gateway in the region while supporting trade and economic development in Tanzania and neighboring countries.
