Police review Crime Fusion footage after Christopher Smith found shot dead on Arlington Drive

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating the murder of 23-year-old Christopher Smith, whose body was discovered in a yard on Arlington Drive in Belize City on Sunday morning.

According to police, the body was reported at around 7:00 a.m. on August 23. Investigators found Smith unresponsive with apparent gunshot injuries and recovered several expended shell casings from the scene.

Police believe Smith may have been shot at around 1:20 that morning, when reports were received of gunfire in the area. Officers who responded at that time, however, were unable to establish a crime scene.

Investigators have since retrieved surveillance footage through the Police Department’s Crime Fusion Center, and police say that footage has provided leads which are now being pursued.

No motive has been established.

Police also confirmed that Smith was known to them. He had previously been charged in connection with the 2024 double murder of Belmopan taxi drivers Marvin Cante and Juan Carlos Raymundo, whose bodies were found in a shallow grave near Hattieville. Importantly, however, the murder charge against Smith was withdrawn on November 28, 2025, on instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
