Police say no evidence yet Patrick Meighan was run over by Carnival truck; video and postmortem pending

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police say investigators have so far found no evidence to confirm reports that Patrick “Papi” Meighan was run over by a Carnival truck during Saturday’s Road March.

Meighan died following an incident shortly after 7:20 p.m. on September 5 on Freetown Road.

ASP Stacy Smith said the investigation has so far suggested that Meighan attempted to climb aboard a trailer truck and fell while doing so, becoming unresponsive.

He was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead at around 8:00 p.m.

Smith said she specifically questioned traffic investigators about reports that Meighan may have been struck or run over by one of the truck’s wheels. According to police, examination of his body at the hospital did not initially reveal injuries suggesting that he had been run over.

Police are retrieving video footage from the area, a postmortem examination is pending, and the truck involved was reportedly impounded for inspection.

News 5 has separately reported preliminary information suggesting Meighan may have become caught in a wheel and been pulled beneath the vehicle. His father, Norris Meighan Sr., told the station that the family was awaiting the completion of the police investigation before drawing conclusions.

No one has been charged.
