By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Prime Minister John Briceño says nearly 16,000 public sector employees will have received an 8 percent salary adjustment by the end of the current fiscal year.
The adjustment covers teachers, police officers, Coast Guard personnel, soldiers and public servants.
According to Briceño, the total annual value of the salary increase is approximately $112 million.
The Prime Minister highlighted the adjustment as one of several Government measures aimed at helping Belizeans deal with increasing living costs.
He acknowledged that families continue to feel the pressure of higher consumer prices and said Government understands those concerns.
Briceño also pointed to minimum wage increases, electricity tax relief, transportation subsidies and GST free shopping periods as measures designed to leave more money in the hands of Belizean workers and families.
The Prime Minister said Government will continue searching for additional ways to ease the burden caused by higher consumer prices.
