*Nearly six months after the passing of music legend Quincy Jones, the handling of his estate has taken a significant turn. Court filings obtained by TMZ confirm that his son, producer and filmmaker Quincy Jones III — known professionally as QD3 — has been appointed executor, stepping into one of the most consequential roles in entertainment legacy management.

Jones had originally tapped his uncle Richard Jones for the role, but Richard chose not to accept it. Rashida Jones was next in line alongside QD3, but she too withdrew, leaving her brother as the sole executor. A probate hearing is scheduled for May 11.

Jones died in November 2024 at age 91 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, and the estate has been moving through probate ever since. Will Smith, LL Cool J, Ice-T, and John Legend were among the celebrities who took to social media to mourn Jones and celebrate his career.

“Quincy Jones is the definition of a Mentor, a Father and a Friend. He pointed me toward the greatest parts of myself,” Smith captioned a photo of him and Jones on the set of the NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which aired from 1990 to 1996. “He defended me. He nurtured me. He encouraged me. He inspired me. He checked me when he needed to. He let me use his wings until mine were strong enough to fly.”

John Legend wrote in his tribute post, “This man has lived one of the most consequential lives in the history of humanity. He was behind some of the most important music and culture we will ever know. And beyond all his accomplishments, anyone who knows Q will talk about the JOY he brought to every room. He was the life of the party, so charming and full of light.”

Known for his groundbreaking work with artists like Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles, Jones built a lasting legacy in both music and business, amassing an estimated $500 million net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth via Newsweek. He was married three times and had seven children with five different women.
