After missing out on the two friendly matches against Tanzania and Madagascar in Morocco due to health issues, Uganda Cranes has got an opportunity for a trial match against Zanzibar.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed accepting an invitation by the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) for a match to celebrate their FA Centenary Celebrations.
The match will be played on Thursday June 11th at the newly constructed Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar. Kick-off is set for 8:15pm East Africa Time.
In that regard, Paul Put has named a 22-man squad dominated by SC Villa who has seven players on the entirely local based players with the exception of former Villa captain Kenneth Ssemakula who is unattached at the moment.
The entire Villa backline led by goalie David Lukwago, captain David Owori, highly rated youngster Barasa Raymond Mangoli, his centre back partner Geoffrey Lubangakene and left back Simon Ssemayange are on the team.
They are joined by forwards Hassan Mubiru and Frank Ssebuufu from the Jogoos squad.
Vipers follow closely with Hilary Mukundane, Usama Arafat, Abubaker Walusimbi and Karim Watambala while KCCA has Gavin Kizito, Herbert Achai, Joel Sserunjogi and league top scorer Ivan Ahimbisibwe.
Entebbe UPPC’s Jonathan Odong, named in the UPL XI makes the squad that also has NEC’s trio of Richard Basangwa, Hannington Ssebwalunyo and Joseph Sseremba.
The team will begin preparations on Monday, 8th June 2026 with a training session at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Defenders: Jonathan Odongo – UPPC FC, David Owori – SC Villa, Herbert Achayi – KCCA FC, Simon Kato Semayange – SC Villa, Gavin Kizito – KCCA FC, Raymond Barasa Mangoli – SC Villa, Hillary Mukundane – Vipers SC, Geoffrey Lubanga Kene – SC Villa.
Midfielders: Joel Sserunjogi – KCCA FC, Kenneth Semakula – Unattached, Marvin Nyanzi – Express FC, Abubakali Walusimbi – Vipers SC, Joseph Seremba – NEC FC, Abdu Karim Watambala – Vipers SC.

The match forms part of the celebrations marking 100 years of the Zanzibar Football Federation and provides another opportunity for the locally based Uganda Cranes players to represent the country on the international stage.
