Solange Debuts New Shaved Hairstyle, But You’ll Never Guess How Mom Tina Knowles Responds
Solange has never shied away from trying new styles and new looks. And this time around, her mother Tina is sharing some interesting insight about her latest choice!

Solange Knowles has long been a fashion and beauty icon. Whether she’s rocking a big, beautiful wavy hair, colorful eyeshadow, or a unique fashion ensemble—it’s clear that she’s never been afraid to try something new.
That’s why, when she debuted a daring new look recently, many fans were pleasantly shocked but not so surprised. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, we’re referring to the latest Instagram post the “A Seat At the Table” singer made recently. In it, she showed her fans and followers nine new photos of her geometric-like, buzz cut hairstyle complete with square-like parts and some cut lower than others.
In the caption, she simply wrote: “New era?” (For all of our sakes, we sure do hope so—especially if this new era comes with some new music, but we digress.)
As you might expect, many in the comments were swift to express their excitement over her daring new look.
“Gorgeous, I’m so intrigued on the story behind it, pls tell me more, goddess,” wrote one user on Instagram.
“Fearless and beautiful,” said another.
One other user wrote, “You see these hair designs a lot in West Africa! It’s so lovely on you.”
Added another in part: “Queen of the big chop!!!”
But out of all the comments, it was her mother Tina Knowles who had the most moving and insightful words of all.
“You look like an Egyptian goddess. Which is appropriate because you were conceived on a boat going down [the] Egyptian Nile,” she said. “Only you could shave your hair, let it grow out some and cut this incredible shape and do it all and look as gorgeous as ever.”
Tina later reposted Solange’s pictures on her own page, adding: “I always said you could shave your head and wear a garbage bag and still look gorgeous .
Well ‘Viola’!!!! You turn everything into Art. I love your boldness!”
After awhile, the “Binz” singer responded to her mother, thanking her for her guidance, writing simply under her post,”“Thank u mother for being my divine north star.”
Others felt similarly with one person writing: “She is making a splash in different ways. Her own unique style. I like that. Different.”
