Tabitha nets first goal, Temwa also on target

France-based Malawian women’s football star Tabitha Chawinga on Saturday scored her first goal of the season in the French women’s top-flight league.

The Scorchers captain netted the third goal as her club OL Lyoness thumped table-anchors Toulouse 5-0 to maintain their grip at the summit of the 12 team league.

The match also marked the first start for Tabithas this season as the champions maintained their 100 percent record with four wins from four matches.

According to L’equipe, after scoring in the 35th minute with a sweet curler from a counter attack, Tabitha was substituted in the 63rd minute.

Meanwhile, her US-based sister Temwa was also on target for her National Women’s Soccer League outfit Kansas City (KC) Current when they swept aside Bay 5-1 also on Saturday.

Following the win, KC Current are fifth in the 16-team league with 44 points from 27 matches, 10 points behind leaders Gotham.

According to a match report by Temwa  capped the scoring in the 89th minute with a breakaway finish to seal the four-goal victory.

It was her 11th goal in the league from 15 appearances.

Temwa, who is the reigning NWSL Golden Boot winner and Most Valuable Player, trails leading scorer Ashley Sanchez of North Carolinas Courage by nine goals.
