Warriors forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya scored a crucial late goal to seal AmaZulu’s 2-1 victory over Polokwane City in a Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash.
Ngwenya netted the winner in the 113th minute of extra time, sending Usuthu through to the next round.
AmaZulu had taken an early lead through Tariq Fielies, who opened the scoring 10 minutes into the match. However, Polokwane City drew level in the 47th minute after converting from the penalty spot, leaving the sides tied 1-1 at halftime.
The second half produced few clear-cut chances. Fielies came close again in the 81st minute with a powerful long-range effort, but his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper.
With the match deadlocked after regulation time, it was Ngwenya who provided the breakthrough in extra time, firing home in the 113th minute to secure a 2-1 win for AmaZulu.
Tuesday’s strike marked the Zimbabwean forward’s seventh goal for the club as he continues to impress since joining Usuthu in July.
Ngwenya is enjoying a strong debut season in the Betway Premiership following his move from four-time Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum last year.
