THE EYES OF GHANA: OFFICIAL TRAILER RELEASED FOR DOCUMENTARY EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY BARACK AND MICHELLE OBAMA

The documentary explores Ghana’s independence through the extraordinary archive of cinematographer Chris Hesse.

Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Ben Proudfoot, the documentary explores Ghana’s independence through the extraordinary archive of cinematographer Chris Hesse.

The official trailer has been released for The Eyes of Ghana, a new documentary presented by global internet personality IShowSpeed and executive produced by former US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama through their production company, Higher Ground.

Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Ben Proudfoot, the film tells the remarkable story of Chris Hesse, the personal cameraman to Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who spent more than six decades preserving footage documenting one of the most significant periods in African history.

Through Hesse’s lens, The Eyes of Ghana revisits the country’s journey to independence and the vision of a newly liberated African nation, bringing long-unseen archival footage to audiences and highlighting the importance of preserving African history through African eyes.
At the heart of the documentary is Hesse’s extraordinary commitment to safeguarding the footage he captured, ensuring that future generations would have access to a visual record of Ghana’s political and cultural transformation.

The film also marks an unexpected collaboration between IShowSpeed and the Obamas, bringing together figures from different generations and platforms to introduce this important chapter of African history to a wider global audience.

The Eyes of Ghana is scheduled for a special one-night theatrical release across the United States and Canada on Wednesday 28th October 2026, with screenings in London and Ghana also planned. Further dates and locations will be announced.

Tickets and screening updates are available at TheEyesOfGhana.com.
