What a world we live in. How to remain human in a world that rewards cruelty, mediocrity, and indifference, in a world that dying. Those of us who we ruined before we were even five know the world find the current state of affairs no surprise. i read Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet some years back, and the way it was written had an impact on me. I decided to create my own book of disquiet. So I created The Book of Bruises. The result being an uncompromising work of fragmentary memoir, rage-poetry, and political testimony.
The pages hold the bruises left by childhood abuse, rape, disability, racism, queerness, state violence, and a society that demands silence in exchange for survival. I dismantle the myth of healing, question the fetishisation of resilience, and refuse the politeness expected of the traumatised. Rage, here, is not spectacle or destruction—it is evidence. It is a record of boundaries crossed and lives discounted.
