Three Belizean Food Companies selected for UK Export Support program

By Zoila Palma:  Three Belizean food and beverage companies have been selected for tailored export support under the UK Government-funded Making Trade Happen (MTH) programme, aimed at helping local businesses enter international markets and create new commercial opportunities.

The selected companies are Naledo Belize Ltd, Smithy’s Natural Blend and Julie’s Zucchini Salsa.

The programme provides export-ready Caribbean businesses with practical support, including product development, regulatory compliance guidance and marketing advice.

Following the preparation phase, the companies will have opportunities to participate in funded UK and international trade shows and business matchmaking activities designed to connect them with overseas buyers.

British High Commissioner to Belize Alistair White said he was pleased to see the three Belizean businesses selected, describing them as part of Belize’s “dynamic community of entrepreneurs” producing products with international potential. He said the initiative will help the companies strengthen their export readiness, connect with international buyers and explore new commercial opportunities.

UK Head of Caribbean Trade Policy and Regional Trade for Development Advisor Lorcan O’Brien said the programme is designed to help Caribbean businesses turn their ambitions into export success.

 He noted that Belizean goods have tariff-free access to the UK under the Economic Partnership Agreement, while the programme will help businesses address challenges involving regulations, marketing and connections with buyers.
