Five days of exciting youth basketball action closed out on Friday at the Beausejour Gymnasium, with the concluding games in the fifth annual Aloysius “Loloy” Daniel Youth Basketball Tournament.
Trinidad & Tobago’s New Chapter Academy (NCA) Warriors completed a dominant run, capturing their fourth consecutive title with an emphatic 120-50 victory over host club East Coast Academy (ECA) Lions, who finished third overall.
The Trinbagonians turned up the defense and shared the rock selflessly to cap off a flawless 5-0 tournament record. Tournament Most Valuable Player Josiah John-Andrew led the Warriors’ swarming defense and high-efficiency fast breaks to blow the game open early.
In other final-day action, Antigua & Barbuda’s Pitbulls secured second place on the podium with a commanding 133-27 triumph over Saint Lucia’s Basketball For The Future (BFTF) Pitbulls.
Guyana’s D-Up Academy finished their campaign on a positive note, dispatching the winless ECA Tigers 71-44 to lock down fourth spot in the final standings.
John-Andrew headlined the tournament’s Best Starting 5 at point guard. He was joined in the all-star lineup by teammate Rannan Howard at centre, dynamic ECA Lions standout Nyel Joseph at shooting guard, and the potent Antigua & Barbuda duo of small forward Jayden Lewis and power forward Yohhan Nicholas.
