A US$2 million project to improve water access in Mon Repos and nearby communities is progressing with key components nearing completion.
The Caribbean Development Fund is funding the Patience water supply redevelopment project, and WASCO is overseeing its implementation. The goal is to provide a modern, climate-resilient water treatment and distribution system that meets the area’s growing needs.
WASCO’s project manager, Maurice Norville, said the intake structure is now fully completed. “The intake is completed structurally, and the only works left to do on this site would be to realign the river and do some boulder packing along the site,” he said.
Construction of the pumping station is also progressing and is now about 75 percent complete. At the same time, work on the pipe lanes is ongoing, bringing the upgraded distribution network closer to completion.
Norville said that all the civil works on the site are finished, adding, “The foundation for the treatment plant has been completed.”
The next step is installing the treatment plant, which is now being shipped. Norville said it is coming from Europe and should arrive in the second or third week of July.
The project should make the water supply in the area much more reliable and capable of serving more people. “Once the project is completed, which and it’s scheduled for completion in September 2026, we can expect better supply in terms of both volume and quality of water to the residents of Pasius and its environment,” Norville said.
The Patience water supply redevelopment project is part of WASCO’s ongoing work to modernise Saint Lucia’s water systems and invest in infrastructure for reliable long-term service across the island.
