This week’s TV lineup spans comedy, history, true crime, music, and major live events, with a mix of returning series, factual storytelling, and standout specials across broadcast and streaming.

On BBC Two, David Olusoga explores the long history of one of London’s most iconic public spaces, while BBC One sees the return of a comedy drama tackling family life and modern pressures. Sky Witness continues a legal drama following a senior investigator exposing corruption from within a powerful firm.

Netflix turns to a true-life 1990s undercover operation inside Britain’s criminal underworld, while BBC Four celebrates the legacy of a legendary music voice through a career-spanning collection. The week culminates with the BAFTA Television Awards 2025 on BBC One, honouring the best in British television.

The People’s Piazza: A History of Covent Garden – Tuesday 5th May @ 11pm | BBC Two

David Olusoga explores the 400-year history of the public space in London’s West End, which has been a market, a meeting place and a site of protest, performance and renewal. Telling the story of the piazza from its early years as a playground for the aristocracy, through decline and dereliction to eventual rebirth, the programme weaves archive material with virtual production techniques to bring to life the history of this renowned civic space.
