By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 19-year-old Belize City man has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after pleading guilty to keeping a firearm without a gun licence, while the charge against his older sister was withdrawn.
Aaron Ayren Pitter, 19, and his sister, 20-year-old Gregoria Veronica Pitter, were escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where they were jointly charged in connection with a Glock 17 Gen 4 9mm pistol found during a police search of a Pitter Street residence.
Aaron initially pleaded guilty while Gregoria pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, however, declined to immediately accept Aaron’s plea and encouraged him to seek legal advice before making the decision.
The siblings were initially remanded, but minutes later Aaron requested to be brought back before the court and again indicated that he wanted to plead guilty and accept responsibility for the firearm.
His guilty plea was accepted, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September 30, 2026, when he is expected to be sentenced following mitigation.
Following Aaron’s guilty plea, the prosecution withdrew the firearm charge against Gregoria and she was released.
Police say a third sibling, Roy Pitter Jr., remains at large.
According to police, officers from the Violence Protection and Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at a residence on Pitter Street on Monday, August 17.
During a search of the bathroom, police allegedly found a pair of blue short pants stuffed inside a hole beside the bathtub. Wrapped inside the clothing was a Glock 17 Gen 4 pistol with a magazine attached.
Police say Aaron arrived at the residence while the search was underway and, after being shown the firearm, allegedly told officers that it belonged to him and that he knew it was there.
The firearm and magazine were examined and found to contain no ammunition.
Aaron and Gregoria were subsequently detained and charged with keeping a firearm without a gun license.
