… says Ketu Constituency Needs Continuity, Not Division
The Ketu Political Liberation Forum (KPLF) has dismissed claims of marginalization and zoning in Ketu II State Constituency in Ogun state, describing a recent appeal by some “concerned citizens” as misleading and not reflective of the political realities in the area.

In a statement released on Friday, KPLF maintained that there has never been any binding zoning arrangement for the State House of Assembly seat in Ketu Constituency II, stressing that representation in the constituency has always been determined through open and competitive contests.
According to the group, the current political season has naturally attracted a wide range of aspirants, including individuals returning from abroad, particularly the United Kingdom, who are now expressing interest in contesting elective positions.
“It is normal at a time like this to see different people from diverse backgrounds stepping forward. However, participation must be based on facts and not on narratives that distort the political history of Ketu,”
The forum cited past elections to support its position, recalling that as far back as 2003, multiple aspirants from different parts of Ketu, including Hon. Job, Hon. Oriyomi, and even the present Kabiyesi contested for the same Assembly seat without any zoning consideration.
KPLF described claims that Ketu Central has been marginalized as inaccurate, noting that the area has historically benefited from significant political representation, including producing House of Representatives, commissioners, and other key office holders.
In contrast, the forum pointed out that Ketu South has had fewer opportunities over the years, aside from the current Assembly position it occupies.
The group also threw its weight behind the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Wahab Haruna Abiodun Egungbohun, commending his performance and grassroots engagement.
It stated that Hon. Egungbohun track record, especially during critical moments such as security challenges, has earned him widespread support across the constituency.
“Hon. Egungbohun has demonstrated capacity, accessibility, and commitment to the people. Our support is based on performance, not zoning,” the forum stated.
The KPLF further argued that attempts to introduce zoning as a compulsory condition for candidacy were unfounded and capable of creating unnecessary division within the constituency.
The forum disclosed that leaders such as Hon. Ogunyomi and Hon. Rasak Adeosi, both from Ketu Central have represented the constituency at the House of Representatives level, a tenure which it noted carries more weight than two terms in the State House of Assembly
Beyond elective offices, the group added that Ketu Central has also produced several key office holders over the years, including caretaker chairman, Governor’s Liaison Officer, commissioner, executive chairman, and other strategic political appointments.
“In contrast, Ketu South has had significantly limited opportunities in terms of political representation, with the current State Assembly position being the most prominent office held by the zone in recent times,” the statement noted.
The forum argued that this imbalance clearly contradicts the narrative of marginalization being pushed by some interests.
Reaffirming its position, KPLF insisted that the Assembly seat should remain with a candidate who has demonstrated capacity, grassroots connection, and commitment to the people.
“On this note, the Assembly must continue with a proven grassroots politician who understands the needs of the people and has consistently delivered effective representation. That individual is Hon. Wahab Haruna Egungbohun,” the group stated.
The forum also cautioned against supporting aspirants who only emerge close to election periods without any track record of political participation or community impact.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the group called for a free, fair, and credible primary election within the All Progressives Congress, urging all aspirants to test their popularity at the polls rather than rely on media campaigns or entitlement claims.
“If anyone believes in their acceptance among the people, they should go to the field. There should be no pressure for automatic tickets or imposition under the guise of zoning,” the statement added.
The forum expressed confidence that the incumbent (Hon. Egungbohun) would emerge victorious in a transparent primary election, citing his popularity and acceptance among constituents.
It also urged the public to disregard what it described as misinformation aimed at misrepresenting the political dynamics of Ketu, emphasizing that the people are politically aware and capable of making informed decisions.
“Ketu must remain united and democratic. Progress must be driven by truth, fairness, and performance, not sentiment,” the statement concluded.
