Reggae musical Jah Makin' It Happen, Brings Windrush story Nationwide, officially launching a UK tour for
Summer 2026.
More Than a Musical-A Cultural Movement! Creating access, removing barriers, platforming untold stories.
After sold-out preview performances at The Rep, Birmingham in 2025, this new Reggae musical pushes boundaries, with Black artists reclaiming the narratives of Black cultural shows in the mainstream.
Jah Makin' It Happen, which explores the legacy of the Windrush generation through music, dance, comedy and drama, will tour 10 cities across England in summer 2026. The production has been independently created by Black-Led, West Midlands-based company G.A.P Entertainment, as part of a wider effort to develop work outside traditional industry structures.
Writer and director Sadé Nicole said the production was born out of necessity as much as creativity.
"Black creatives need a seat at the table to ensure our stories are authentically told with accuracy, for edification as well as for entertainment."
The production blends live reggae music, comedy, dance and emotional storytelling, capturing the journey of a Jamaican family navigating migration, identity, and belonging in Britain.
A STORY THAT HITS HOME
Told through the infectious rhythms of reggae, the show follows Johnny, a dreamer with ambitions of providing the best life for his family. When a hurricane devastates his livelihood in Jamaica, he makes the life-changing decision to migrate to the UK setting in motion a journey of sacrifice, resilience, change and transformation.
The production draws on authentic cultural influences, rooted in Jamaican and British working-class life, grounding the story in lived experience with the casting of predominantly British-Jamaican actors who are Windrush Descendents.
While recent years have seen increased conversations around representation in the arts, many
Black-led productions continue to face barriers to funding, touring and long-term support. G.A.P Entertainment; the team behind Jah Makin' It Happen; is part of a growing movement of artists creating
independent pathways to bring their work to audiences. Produced, cast and developed outside London, the show also aims to challenge the concentration of
opportunities within the capital, with a Midlands-based team and a focus on regional venues. Early audiences have responded positively to the production's mix of humour, music and social commentary. "An interactive, uplifting and entertaining tribute to the pioneers of the Windrush
generation, who paved the way for generations to come..." said Shakka Dedi, Afridiziak Theatre news
Tour dates for summer 2026 have recently been announced.
