Zamalek through to CAF Confederation Cup final

Zamalek progressed to the final of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup after eliminating CR Belouizdad on Friday.

The semifinal return leg played at Cairo International Stadium ended goalless but the White Nights advanced 1-0 on aggregate, following their victory in the reverse fixture.

Zamalek played with control and grit to protect their lead from the first leg. The Egyptian outfit thought they had taken the lead midway through the first half but Abdallah El-Said’s effort was ruled out following a VAR review.

Despite efforts in the closing minutes from the Algerian side, Zamalek defended resolutely to see out the result and progress to the final, their third overall and second in three seasons.

Zamalek will face either Olympique Safi or USM Alger in the final. The two face off in the second semi-final in Morocco on Sunday with the tie levelled following a goalless draw in the first leg.
