$500,000 investment could earn foreigners residency in Belize

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Foreign investors could soon secure residency in Belize, but it will come with a price and conditions.

The Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour has outlined the main features of the proposed Investor Residence Program, which Minister Kareem Musa says is meant to bring in investment while keeping the immigration system secure.

Applicants will need to invest at least $500,000 and spend a combined 12 months in Belize within three years.

Those who lie on their applications or fail to keep up with the requirements risk having their investor status taken away.

The program was approved by Cabinet in December 2025. The US State Department’s 2026 Investment Climate Statement noted the plan, while pointing out that the enabling legislation was still pending.

Several Caribbean countries already operate similar programs, and Government says they have helped stimulate economic activity.

For Belize, the hope is that the program will bring new capital, create jobs and support growth in priority sectors.

Further updates are expected from the Ministry as the program moves forward.
