CREGG Lafferty-Tuccaro, 33, of Alberta was charged on Monday with second-degree murder in last month’s deaths of an 18-year-old young woman and a 33-year-old man who resided together at a Langley residence.
On April 27 at approximately 11:16 a.m., Langley RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious incident in the 21000-block of 16 Avenue in Langley. First responders from the Langley RCMP, Township of Langley Fire Department, and BC Ambulance Services attended and located two deceased individuals inside a residence.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in and assumed conduct of the investigation.
IHIT continued to work in close partnership with the Langley RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to advance this investigation.
Over the past week, IHIT investigators completed an extensive neighbourhood canvass, interviewed several witnesses and followed up on leads from the public. As a result, a suspect was identified and arrested on May 3 in relation to the murders.
IHIT said Lafferty-Tuccaro had no prior police history in B.C. and investigators believe this to be an isolated incident where the parties were known to each other. Lafferty-Tuccaro has been detained by the court and is next scheduled to appear on May 11.
Police will not be releasing the names of the victims at this time out of respect for their families’ privacy, and because it is not needed to further the investigation, IHIT said.
“This was a tragic incident and our hearts break for the victims’ families as they grieve the sudden loss of their loved ones,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Our thoughts are with them as well as the first responders and support workers who responded to this call. Through teamwork and persistence, IHIT investigators gathered the evidence needed to secure charges, which we hope will support the healing of those impacted.”
