Ariana Grande Is Done Being ‘Polite’ on ‘Feral’ New Album ‘Petal’: ‘This Kind of Just Feels Like, ‘F–k It”

The title of Ariana Grande‘s new album, Petal, might be pretty and delicate, but it sounds like some of its subject matter definitely isn’t.

In a Thursday (May 7) video the pop star posted on Instagram, she gives a summary of her upcoming project while addressing her team, revealing that the album doesn’t tiptoe around certain topics. “It’s a little feral,” she tells the group. “It’s definitely from a place I’ve been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before.”

“This kind of just feels like, ‘F–k it,'” Grande adds in the clip.

The Grammy winner announced Petal at the end of April. In a release at the time, she described the project — which follows 2024’s Billboard 200-topper Eternal Sunshine — as “something that is full of life” with songs about “growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.”

“It’s kind of about breaking up with all different kinds of negative attachments, whether it’s my own monsters in my own head, external voices, things that no longer serve me,” Grande adds in the new Instagram video. “I could be talking about one thing, sharing something, and people could use it however they want and apply it to their own lives.”

Before Petal arrives on July 31, Grande will kick off her Eternal Sunshine Tour on June 6. The trek — her first in seven years — will see the Wicked actress spending about two months traveling through North America before she closes with 10 shows at the O2 Arena in London.
