Belize pitches itself as a gateway to CARICOM at Mexico business summit

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize used a major business summit in Mexico to promote itself as a strategic trade gateway linking Mexico to the wider Caribbean market.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Investment, through the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU) and BELTRAIDE, took part in the IX AMERIC Business Summit 2026, held from June 4 to 7 at the Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo.

The summit was organised under a theme focused on positioning Chetumal, Quintana Roo, as a strategic platform for reaching new markets.

The invitation came from AMERIC AC, a Mexican association representing more than 560 businesses in the construction sector.

Alongside the Government of the Mexican State of Quintana Roo, Belize delivered a presentation on developing new markets for Mexico through Chetumal, spotlighting the Belize–Mexico border region as a logistics, industrial and commercial corridor connecting Mexico with Belize and the broader CARICOM market.

Belize’s delegation emphasised the growing partnership between Belize and Quintana Roo, and the opportunities to expand trade, improve logistics and infrastructure, and attract investment.

Officials also highlighted Belize’s role as a gateway to CARICOM and its increasing integration into regional supply chains.

The Port of Belize Project was featured as a major initiative designed to harness the manufacturing, maritime and logistics capacity shared between southern Mexico and Belize, with the goal of helping new products enter CARICOM member states.

Belize was represented by Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, and Ishmael Quiroz, Executive Director of BELTRAIDE, accompanied by technical staff from both organisations.
