Belize Territorial Volunteers, BDF and Coast Guard coordinate security for annual Sarstoon expedition

By Zoila Palma:  Today, the Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) met with senior officials of the Belize Defence Force (BDF) and Belize Coast Guard to coordinate security and operational arrangements for the group’s upcoming annual expedition to the Sarstoon River.

The meeting, held in Punta Gorda, brought together BTV leaders and Lieutenant Colonel Justo Veliz Jr., Commanding Officer of the BDF’s 1st Infantry Battalion, along with Lieutenant Juan Bulum, Sector South Commander of the Belize Coast Guard.

Discussions included measures aimed at ensuring the safety and orderly movement of participants during the September 10 expedition.

The BTV said that the meeting was productive and reflected a shared commitment to national safety and Belize’s sovereignty.

BTV said collaborative measures were established to prioritize the safety of both Belizean and international participants taking part in the excursion.

BTV Leader Wil Maheia expressed appreciation to the BDF and Coast Guard for their cooperation. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the leadership and personnel of both the Belize Defence Force and the Belize Coast Guard for their professional cooperation and dialogue today,” Maheia said.

“Working together ensures that our citizens can exercise their rights safely as we honor our nation’s sovereignty,” he added.

The BTV says the expedition will be peaceful and orderly, with participants travelling to the Sarstoon River on Thursday, September 10, as part of activities marking Belize’s 45^th Independence.
