Beyond crowns and pageantry- A platform with purpose!

By Zoila Palma:  Today, Minister of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Minister of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs met with Queen of the Bay delegates for a conversation that went beyond crowns and pageantry, it was about purpose, advocacy and the power of their voices.

Discussions included issues at the heart of the Ministry’s work, including child abuse and the Blue Teddy Bear Campaign, gender-based violence, and the need to continue raising awareness about the issues affecting children, women and families across Belize.

Minister Garcia-Ramirez encouraged the delegates to recognize the influence that comes with their platforms and how that influence can be used to educate, advocate and amplify important messages within their communities and among their peers.

Following the pageant, the Queen of the Bay Organization will reconnect with the Ministry to explore ways in which the delegates and organization can support ongoing awareness and advocacy initiatives.

The Ministry says that this platform can be more than a spotlight but a voice that can help create change.
