Members of Black Professionals Australia (BPA) recently gathered in Canberra for a series of roundtable discussions and networking sessions aimed at strengthening professional connections and advancing conversations around leadership, inclusion and career development within Australia’s Black professional community.
The gathering brought together professionals from different industries and backgrounds for discussions focused on shared experiences, professional growth and opportunities for collaboration across sectors.

According to organisers, the Canberra event reflects the organisation’s broader vision of creating spaces where Black professionals in Australia can connect, exchange ideas and support one another professionally.
Among those who contributed to the discussions were community and professional leaders including Tatenda John Maphosa and Kola Akinboye, who shared insights and experiences during the roundtable conversations. The sessions were moderated by Mazvita M Garwe and Anu Adeyemi.
Founded in 2024, BPA describes itself as one of the country’s fastest-growing networks for Black professionals and students. The organisation focuses on professional development, networking, mentorship, leadership pathways and connecting members with employers committed to diversity and inclusion.
The organisation has also positioned itself as a platform for advocacy and representation, seeking to help bridge leadership gaps and increase visibility for Black professionals across Australian industries. Through workshops, networking events and partnerships with businesses, BPA aims to create stronger pathways into leadership and career advancement opportunities.
The Canberra gathering comes at a time when professional networks and culturally informed support systems are becoming increasingly important for many diverse communities navigating Australia’s corporate and professional sectors.
Organisers say they hope similar gatherings will continue to expand across the country as the network grows and more professionals seek spaces for collaboration, mentorship and meaningful professional engagement.
