ON Monday, August 10, shortly before 2 p.m., the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the body of the missing 13-year-old female who entered the waters of Cultus Lake on August 8. The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroner Service.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” says Cpl. Carmen Kiener of Chilliwack RCMP. “This is a heartbreaking outcome, and we are deeply sorry for their loss.”
At approximately 1:21 p.m., on August 8, Chilliwack RCMP received a report of the female who was reportedly floating on a paddleboard when she reportedly suffered a medical emergency. She was not wearing a life jacket and is believed to have entered the water as she fell off the paddleboard.
Chilliwack RCMP thanked all partner agencies and volunteers who dedicated their time, resources and expertise throughout this response to locate the youth.
Chilliwack RCMP also reminds the public to take precautions around the water. Always wear a properly fitted life jacket, ensure you have the necessary swimming skills before entering the water, and use the buddy system and never swim alone.
