Cape Town Marathon Unveils Star-Studded 10km Peace Run Fields

Defending champions, national medallists and South African record holders are set to headline what could be one of the strongest editions yet of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 10km Peace Run later this month.

Cape Town, South Africa (11 May 2026) – With the countdown to the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon well underway, organisers have officially revealed the elite fields for the 10km Peace Run and the line-up is packed with some of South Africa’s fastest road runners.

Set for Saturday, 23 May, the race is already shaping up to be one of the standout events of marathon weekend, with defending champions, national medallists and rising stars all expected to light up the streets of Cape Town.

On the women’s side, all eyes will be on defending champion Tayla Kavanagh, who arrives in red-hot form after an unbeaten 2026 season so far. Kavanagh recently completed the 5000m and 10 000m double at the national championships and clocked a personal best of 31:33 at this year’s SPAR Ladies 10km in Cape Town. With her aggressive front-running style, she is expected to set the tone early.

Another athlete expected to challenge at the front is Kyla Jacobs. The Cape Town favourite has continued to impress since returning to competition, recently posting a 32:16 personal best and earning silver at the national championships. Competing on home roads will likely give her even more motivation.

The men’s field looks just as competitive. Back-to-back defending champion Deon-Lee Hendricks returns looking to make it three titles in a row after winning the race in both 2024 and 2025. He also heads into the event with strong confidence following his silver medal performance over 10 000m at this year’s national championships.

Then there is Maxime Chaumeton, one of the most exciting road-running talents in the country right now. Holding South African records over both 5km and 10km on the road, Chaumeton has been producing world-class times this season, including a remarkable 26:55 over 10km earlier this year in France. Many will see him as one of the favourites to challenge the course record.

The 10km Peace Run forms part of a massive marathon weekend as the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon continues its push towards becoming Africa’s first Abbott World Marathon Majors event.

Passionate local support and plenty of momentum around South African road running right now, the atmosphere in Cape Town later this month is expected to be something special.
