Celebrating Black Women in Dance

Throughout 2026, Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage is celebrating the voices of Black women. This focus takes centre stage during Let’s Dance International Frontiers 2026 (LDIF26) with the UK Premiere of Marks of RED by Shamel Pitts | TRIBE.  A work of magical realism narrated by and featuring the viewpoints of six women, Marks of RED is an Afrofuturistic meditation on the “womb space,” divining the effect that memory has on our experiences, senses, bodies, reality, and our imaginative possibilities.

From the annual conference to Dance Dialogues and beyond, we are delighted to share the practice of Angie Amra Andersonnora chipaumireAlexandria Davis, Brenda Dixon Gottschild, Sonja Dumas, Julie Felix MBE, Sandra Golding, Greta Mendez, Marlène Myrtil and Yewande YoYo Odunubi, Sharon Watson and many others.  Join us in these spaces of discussion, learning and exchange, and connect directly with leading practitioners shaping the future of Black dance.

Beyond LDIF26, Making the Invisible Visible: Black Women 365 Days of the Year is a daily series of short films to create an evolving constellation of leadership, resistance, artistry and enduring impact.  This is also an opportunity to revisit 100 Black Women Who Have Made A Mark which features many dance pioneers such as Rosina Bonsu and Leonora Stapleton.  Watch, share and return to these stories throughout the year, and use them as resources in your own practice, teaching and activism.

LDIF26 is an opportunity to gather in spaces of empowerment, reflection and healing.  Book your place today, invite a friend and stand with us in celebrating, documenting and amplifying the voices of Black women.
