A criminal charge has been approved against the owner of two dogs after the dogs allegedly mauled a woman.

On May 20, Port Moody Police frontline officers along with other first responders were called to the Moody Centre area for reports of a woman who had sustained serious injuries after two large dogs attacked her. The woman was transported to hospital by paramedics.

Officers spoke with over a dozen witnesses and compiled other material evidence, later sending a report to Crown Counsel. The B.C. Prosecution Service has now approved a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm against Jessica Rex.

“It is alleged that these dogs had previously been deemed aggressive by City officials, but were not wearing required muzzles at the time of the incident,” said Constable Sam Zacharias on Thursday. “The victim sustained serious, life-altering injuries as a result of the mauling and continues to recover from the attack. We thank those who remained on scene and rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived.”
