China Conducts Coast Guard Patrols and Marine Geophysical Survey in the Taiwan Island waters
The experts involved in the mission collected basic data on the seabed environment, including seafloor topography, sedimentary strata, deep geological structures and geophysical fields.

China has announced that it has completed routine coast guard patrols and a comprehensive marine geophysical survey in waters east of Taiwan Island.
The China Coast Guard (CCG) conducted law-enforcement patrols during the first week of September 2026.
The sea vessel, Putuoshan led the CCG task group.
Reports have that the China Coast Guard has strengthened control over the waters since August to ensure orderly navigation, protect lives and property, and safeguard lawful rights and interests.
A spokesperson for the China Coast Guard, Jiang Lue, revealed that a CCG task group which was led by the ship Putuoshan has been strengthening control over the relevant waters since August 2026.
The target is to effectively ensure orderly navigation and activities, safeguarding the legitimate and lawful rights and interests, as well as the lives and property of Chinese people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
The China Coast Guard (CCG) insisted that it will continue patrols to protect the country’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
Meanwhile again, the Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources said a survey conducted between the 10th and 31st of August 2026 has successfully collected data on seabed topography, sedimentary strata, deep geological structures and geophysical fields.
The survey was conducted by the Second Institute of Oceanography under the Ministry of Natural resources in China.
According to Ministry the exercise supports research, resource administration, spatial planning and integrated governance.
The experts involved in the mission collected basic data on the seabed environment, including seafloor topography, sedimentary strata, deep geological structures and geophysical fields.
The collected data will help China to further understand the seabed geological and geophysical characteristics of this area, and provide data for geological research on seabed sedimentation and tectonic structures, as well as deep crustal structure and geodynamic evolution in waters east of Taiwan Island, according to the ministry.
The survey also provides a scientific basis for China’s integrated governance of waters under its jurisdiction in the region.
