Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo has gifted five new vehicles to the leadership of Highlanders FC following the club’s 1–0 victory over rivals Dynamos FC in the Jairos Jiri Charity Cup match played over the weekend.
Chivayo, who has emerged as a key benefactor of the Bulawayo giants, said the victory was a strong indication that the club is on a path to revival.
The five vehicles have been allocated to club chairman Luke Mnkandla, Chief Executive Officer Denzel Mnkandla, head coach Benjani Mwaruwari, club curator Jabulani Nkomo and club legend Madinda Ndlovu.
“A motivated and well-led team will always deliver results. Highlanders FC’s 1-0 victory over Dembare clearly shows that Bosso is on the rise.
“We are surely set for an interesting 2026 Premier Soccer League season, where Highlanders FC shall offer stiff competition against all odds,” read part of Chivayo’s post.
In addition to the vehicle donation, Chivayo announced that he will disburse US$500,000 to the club, the balance of a US$1 million pledge he made last year.
“I am also pleased to announce that in fulfillment of the pledge I made last year, I will be immediately disbursing the balance of US$500,000 through the Curator of the Club.
“This effectively brings the total sponsorship to US$1,000,000 as per my undertaking.
“It is my sincere hope and expectation that, with such financial support, the Club will be able to sign on new players and adequately motivate the current players by attending to their welfare and needs.
“The club must now focus on delivering results and ensure that the 2026 Season will be a resounding success.”
Last month, Chivayo donated a team bus to Highlanders as part of efforts to strengthen the club’s operational capacity.
He played a key role in the appointment of head coach Benjani Mwaruwari and is responsible for covering his salary.
