The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) is mourning the death of one of its longstanding stalwarts, Bakary M.A. Jaiteh, popularly known as General Bakso.
Jaiteh, 68, reportedly passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, leaving behind a long history of political involvement in The Gambia.
A native of Njaba-Kunda in the North Bank Region, Jaiteh was a familiar figure within the APRC, having served the party in various capacities over the years, including as senior administrative secretary and national coordinator. He also previously served as deputy governor of the West Coast Region.
Known for his outspoken political views and unwavering association with the former ruling party, Jaiteh remained an active voice in national political affairs long after the APRC lost power in December 2016.
His death comes at a time when the party continues to navigate the country’s changing political landscape ahead of the December 2026 presidential election.
Funeral arrangements and further details surrounding his passing have yet to be announced.
The Daily Observer extends its sincere condolences to the Jaiteh family, relatives, friends and the entire APRC fraternity.
May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength and patience to bear this loss.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.
