*Labrinth has a message for Hollywood, and he delivered it loud and clear on Instagram Stories this past Saturday. The British composer addressed his split from HBO’s “Euphoria” directly, framing it as a matter of personal boundaries rather than creative differences.
“People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people,” he wrote, Deadline reports. “So no cap, I decided to remove whatever music I had in it. I spoke to HBO, as far as I know, we are cool. I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me. But I don’t let people treat me like sh*t.”
The post landed just ahead of the show’s Season 3 debut on Sunday. It wasn’t his first public outburst — last month, Labrinth posted and later deleted a pointed message that read, “F*ck Columbia. Double f*ck Euphoria. I’m out. Thank you and good night,” stating he was “done with this industry.”
Series creator Sam Levinson offered kind words, describing Labrinth as an “incredible collaborator,” while admitting “I don’t know” why he left the series. Levinson credited the artist with building “the foundation of the sound of Euphoria,” and told Rolling Stone the new season would move toward “an old-fashioned Hollywood Western score” as the characters navigate life beyond high school.
“In general, I was less interested in needle drops and more interested in something that guided us through this world.… They’re out of high school, so the pop roots of it have faded away,” Levinson said. “I see them in these landscapes, dealing with good and evil, the choices you make, the consequences, and the freedom of being older. How I imagined it visually, I wanted to lean into an old-fashioned Hollywood Western score.”
Hans Zimmer has come aboard to fill the role for Season 3. Labrinth scored the series from its very first episode, and his track “All for Us” took home the Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
