This shortcut makes them an affordable and practical option, especially when time is limited but a comforting dish is still on the menu.

According to Simply Recipes, to achieve the desired crispiness, the surface of the potatoes needs a little help. After draining and halving them, gently roughing them up in a colander creates a light starchy coating. This step is essential, as it allows the exterior to develop a crisp shell during roasting while helping seasonings adhere more effectively.

Flavor plays a major role in the final result. Tossing the potatoes with melted butter, bacon fat, duck fat, or even coconut oil adds richness. A small amount of salt and herbs like rosemary or thyme enhances the overall taste without overpowering the dish.

Equally important is the cooking method. Preheating a heavy baking sheet in a 425°F oven ensures the potatoes begin crisping as soon as they hit the pan. A drizzle of high-heat oil further promotes browning, creating an effect similar to frying.
